Week 1 - Cylinders (2.5 hrs)

Ready to get your hands dirty and discover the magic of the pottery wheel? In this 2.5-hour beginner-friendly class, you'll learn the foundational techniques of wheel throwing, focusing on creating the classic starting shape: the cylinder. Under my guidance, you'll practice centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping your very first thrown piece. No experience needed—just come with curiosity and leave with muddy hands and a new skill!

Week 2 - Refining Cylinders & Introducing Bowls (2 hrs)

In the second week of your pottery journey, you'll refine the skills learned in Week 1 by trimming the cylinders you threw, shaping them into more polished and professional forms. We'll also do a quick recap of throwing techniques to reinforce the fundamentals of centering and pulling walls. Then, you'll take the next step by learning how to throw bowl forms—exploring new shaping techniques and curves that expand your wheel-throwing abilities.

Week 3 - Refining & Expanding Your Skills (2 hrs)

This week we’ll focus on refining and expanding your foundational skills. You’ll begin by trimming and finishing the bowls you threw in Week 2, learning how to create clean, professional foot rings and refine your form. We’ll then recap key techniques for throwing bowl shapes before progressing to a new challenge: throwing plate forms. This 2-hour session is designed to deepen your understanding of form and control while broadening your repertoire on the wheel.

Week 4 - Finishing Touches & Decorative Techniques (2 hrs)

In the final session of the course, we’ll bring your creations to life with finishing and decorative techniques. You’ll begin by trimming and refining the plates made in Week 3, then explore the art of surface decoration. Learn how to use coloured slips to decorate unfired greenware and experiment with stoneware glazes on your bisque-fired pieces. This 2-hour session is all about adding personality, texture, and colour to your work—giving you the tools to elevate your pottery from functional to truly expressive.
